The mission
of our library…
The primary mission of the library is to
support the curriculum of the school. The library contains approximately 12,000
items of age-appropriate material to fulfill this mission. Regular weeding and
collection development keeps the collection moderately up-to-date and relevant.
Sufficient audiovisual equipment, housed in the library, is available for
teachers to use in the classroom.
The library adheres to a fixed schedule.
Each student has a regular library period at least once per week.
Instruction is given in basic library skills and information retrieval.
Practice is achieved through written and oral projects assigned by the
classroom teachers and the librarian. There
is an ongoing promotion for the appreciation of a genuine love of reading
through book talks, storytelling, and author/illustrator reviews.
Book
Circulation Policy…
Students grades 1-4
are allowed to check out one book per week provided they have out no overdue
books. Books are checked out
electronically through our library’s circulation system.
Students are financially responsible for books that are lost and/or
damaged while in their possession.

Westmoreland Elementary School are able to participate in the Accelerated Reader
