First Six Weeks

Spelling:  Units 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7

Math:  Chapters 1 & 2

          Place value @ Numeration, Rounding numbers, Word problems, Addition and Subtraction

Reading: Unit 1- all five stories and the unit test

          Focus on the Family theme, fact and opinion, sequence, setting, and cause and effect

 Language Arts: Unit 1- Sentences

          4 kinds of sentences, subjects and predicates, time order words, letter writing, personal narrative writing, and journaling

 Science:  Properties of Matter, Food Production & Energy for Life

 Social Studies:  Chapters 1 & 2-Geography and Earliest Americans.  Global and map skills, landforms

 

Second Six Weeks

 Social Studies:  Chapter 2: Earliest Americans; Chapter 3: Exploration

 Math:  Chapter 2: Addition and Subtraction; Word Problems; Money; Chapter 3: Multiplication and Division Facts

 Science:  Chapter 3: Food Chains and Food Webs; Chapter 4: Animal and Plant Adaptations; Animal Kits

 Language:  Nouns; common nouns; proper nouns; possessive nouns; plural nouns; irregular plural nouns; poetry and seasonal creative writing.

 Reading:  Fact and opinion; cause and effect; visualization; theme; synonyms; compare and contrast; context clues; Unit 2; Stories.

 Spelling:  (2-1)--(2-5).  Spelling correlates with Reading and Language; vowel sounds in "put" and "out"; silent letters and harder spelled words; compound words; homophones; vowels with "r". 

Third Six Weeks

Social Studies:  Chapter 3: Exploration:  Chapter 4: European Settlement

Math:  Chapter 3: Multiplication Facts and Division Facts:  Chapter 5: Multiplying by 1-digit numbers by 2, 3, and 4 digit numbers; Chapter 6: Multiplying by 2-digit numbers; Chapter 8: Dividing 1-digit divisors

Science:  Chapter 5: Matter:  Chapter 6:  Work and Energy

Language:  Verbs, subject and verb agreement, verb tenses, and adjectives.

Spelling; Lesson 3-1: Adding er and est;  Lesson 3-2: Adding s and es:  Lesson 3-3: Adding ed and ing;  Lesson 3-4: words with /j/, /ks/, and /kw/;  Lesson 3-5: vowels in final syllables.

Reading: John Henry-Making Judgments:  Marven of the Great North Woods; Drawing conclusions;  On the Pampas- Generalizing: The Storm- Predicting; Rikki-Tikki-Tavi- Drawing Conclusions and Making inferences.
